Hard to beat
After Luis Aragonés's side won their weekend friendly against Peru with a dramatic late goal, Spain's credentials as a team who are hard to beat have been enhanced. But defensive lapses and a lack of creativity throughout the majority of a tense match leave question marks to accompany their arrival in Austria. The nervous first-half display was typified by a couple of moments which will concern Spain's technical staff.

British success on night of friendlies

ImageA number of nations not involved in UEFA EURO 2008™ played friendlies on Wednesday and uefa.com rounds up the action with England and Wales both victorious. 

England 2-0 United States

Goals in either half from John Terry and Steven Gerrard earned England a comfortable 2-0 victory over the United States at Wembley Stadium.

A week after enduring the disappointment of missing what would have been a decisive penalty in the UEFA Champions League final, the Chelsea FC defender was all smiles after heading a David Beckham free-kick past Tim Howard seven minutes before the break. Jermain Defoe then had two chances saved within the space of two minutes at the start of the second half, before Gerrard latched on to a Gareth Barry through ball to double England's lead with a calm finish.
